Artist Statement
My life’s work is to explore and reveal how sacred creative energy passes through our world transforming everything it meets. Confronted by my own disabled body, I explore how the physical both constrains and enables creativity. Delving the inner life of an artist, I ask what it means to create and where creativity comes from. Through this work, I experience the fundamentally healing nature of the creative process.
The monotype form allows an immediacy, the ability to translate messages, images, and feeling directly onto the plate before the mind can filter an artist’s purest impulses. It is profoundly suited to letting healing creative energy flow through. Recently, I have added augmented reality to my monotypes. I call this The Secret Life of the Monotype. It is a way of going more deeply into the imagery of a piece. Although I am focusing on monotype and augmented reality, I work in many mediums including sculpture, etching, painting, pastel, mixed media and installation.
